Massachusetts Event Celebrates Nicholas Roerich

by Barbara Boughton

The Center for Peace Through Culture sponsored a reception to present the video of the life and art of Nicholas Roerich entitled "Messenger of Beauty" on September 17th, 2005. Along with the video, 20 reproduction prints of these inspirational paintings are on exhibit for one month at the Gallery at Barbara Boughton Interiors in Great Barrington, MA. This event was created to honor the International Day of Peace.

Around 35 people attended this educational evening. Nanette Hucknall, one of the founders of the CPC introduced the video and spoke about the origins of this organization and plans for the upcoming year.

Presenting the life of Nicholas Roerich to our Berkshire community as an example of an extraordinary peacemaker was a joy and the attendees were equally impressed by the accomplishments of this peacemaker who was also an archeologist, writer, lawyer and painter. Some of Roerich's major achievements , besides his 7000 works of art, were the Roerich Peace Pact, the Banner of Peace and his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Please see our page on Nicholas Roerich.
