INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
Award-Winning Documentary "Peace One Day" Premieres in Los Angeles

The award-winning documentary film "PEACE ONE DAY" will have its Los Angeles premiere on September 1, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood. The film follows British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley around the world, documenting his successful effort to create an internationally recognized day of global ceasefire and non-violence - World Peace Day.

In the course of a remarkable five-year journey, Gilley meets with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and other notables, enlisting support for the idea. His efforts culminated in a resolution passed by the U.N. General Assembly in 2001, declaring a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, to be observed on September 21 annually. Since that time, events in support of World Peace Day have been staged in more than 100 countries.

The Los Angeles screening, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be followed by a reception including a question and answer session with the filmmaker. Gilley, who continues to raise awareness and build support for the observance of World Peace Day, is in the process of creating a second documentary detailing the work of his organization, also called Peace One Day. Part of their mission is to encourage groups and individuals to commit to honoring the day, and to raise awareness and support through screenings of the film.

"Jeremy's passion for this cause is compelling, and I am convinced that this documentary will find an audience in the entertainment world, one that can open doors and eyes to the importance of what he's doing," says Solomon.

The screening is made possible by a grant from the Center for Peace through Culture, a non-profit organization which fosters peaceful coexistence between various cultures through programs, workshops and other means of communications.
